What is Reunification Coaching? Reunification Coaching is a psychoeducational skill building process designed to assist formerly absent parents reconnect with their children.
Coaching is not therapy. If your family requires therapy, and all parties are in California, please go to our Reunification Therapy page. Re-establishing Relationships If you and your children have been separated for a time due to divorce, deployment, jail time, or other reason, you may notice that it can be a bumpy transition on the way back to "normal." Coaching may help ease the transition.
When is Reunification Coaching Helpful? Here are some situations when Reunification Coaching can be helpful: - individuals do not have a mental health diagnosis - individuals already have a therapist and are working on personal goals - a parent has been separated from the child or children for a time and re-entry into the family system is stressful - parents and children live in different states and cannot find a therapist who is licensed in both states
How can Reunification Coaching help? Reunification Coaching can help the custodial parent, returning parent, and children by:
- introducing or reintroducing a parent (or parents) and child/ren - reinforcing the parent/s-child/ren relationship - creating or strengthening the attachment bond - embracing the awkwardness of the transition - facilitating safe and secure interactions - learning and using coping skills - learning and using communication skills - learning and using effective, positive parenting techniques
How is Reunification Coaching different from Reunification Therapy? Coaching is more future-focused and goal-directed than Therapy. In Reunification Coaching, we help custodial parents, returning parents, and children adjust to the re-entry of the formerly absent parent via the use of psychoeducation and targeted activities that help manage difficult emotions, increase the ability to function within a difficult life circumstance, improve strained relationships, and communicate more effectively.
Additional Services Additional services may include communication with social workers, attorneys, school personnel and/or other individuals involved with the process, and preparation of a Summary of Service for Court.
