Advice for new therapists. Becoming a therapist. Seasoned therapist are helpful for the therapist who has self doubt or who is lacking in confidence as they start their new career.
Will I mess up my clients? What if I don't know what to say? What if I chose the wrong profession? Becoming a Therapist- Advice for Associates and Interns. While we are in the training process, we can become inspired by other more seasoned therapists and want to be like them. We have to be careful with this tendency because we can get caught up in trying to act like someone else and end up coming off as unauthentic or weird.
The most important part of the therapeutic process is the therapist-client relationship. In order for this to happen, we need to show up to our sessions in an authentic way. We are helping clients to be their true self and to use their voice. How are they going to believe us if we are wearing a mask the whole time?
