Family & Children’s Counseling Services is happy to welcome Walter Recinos as a Therapist Trainee!
 
Walter is currently completing his master’s degree in Social Work at Tulane University. He is under the clinical supervision of Melinda Haynes, MA, LMFT 102308. 

Walter Recinos is a dedicated Master of Social Work intern who brings more than a decade of experience serving diverse communities with compassion, cultural humility, and practical problem-solving. His career in social services has spanned mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and wrap-around support for individuals and families navigating complex life challenges.
 
Walter’s therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), strengths-based practices, culturally responsive care, and mindfulness. He works with clients of all ages, offering a safe, nonjudgmental space for healing and growth. With a deep commitment to honoring each client’s unique background, Walter is especially passionate about supporting members of the Latino community, individuals navigating LGBTQ+ identities, and those exploring or reconciling religious or spiritual experiences.
 
Walter believes that all people deserve to live a life that is full and happy—whatever that means for the individual. He encourages clients to find the strength within themselves to face life’s daily challenges, knowing that, like any goal, the more energy and intention you invest, the more achievable it becomes. This philosophy guides his work, empowering clients to recognize their resilience and create lasting change.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Walter strives to build trust and connection as the foundation for meaningful growth. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Policy and Community Advocacy from Arizona State University and is currently completing his Master’s in Social Work at Tulane University. At Heal Play Love, he is honored to walk alongside children, teens, and adults as they work toward greater self-understanding, resilience, and fulfillment.

In Walter's free time, he enjoys spending time with loved ones, reading, listening to all kinds of music, watching true crime shows and reality tv as well as listening to podcasts.

Walter will provide community-based services in the San Francisco Bay Area, and will see clients via Telehealth throughout California. ​
