Family & Children’s Counseling Services is happy to welcome Shay Walker as a Therapist Trainee!
 
Shay is currently completing her master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Touro University Worldwide. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development with a concentration in Social and Community Settings from California State University, Sacramento. She is under the clinical supervision of Melinda Haynes, MA, LMFT 102308. 

Shay brings several years of experience serving children, youth, and families through child welfare, social services, and community-based systems. Her professional background includes supporting children, parents, caregivers, and families impacted by trauma, family separation, systemic challenges, and barriers to accessing resources. She currently supports statewide prevention efforts focused on strengthening families and improving outcomes for children and communities.

Her therapeutic approach integrates trauma-informed care, family systems theory, and culturally responsive practices. She believes that each person’s experiences, relationships, and cultural background shape their understanding of themselves and the world around them. She works collaboratively with clients to explore patterns, build emotional awareness, strengthen relationships, and develop healthy coping strategies that support healing and personal growth.

Shay is passionate about working with individuals, couples, and families who are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, trauma, anxiety, self-worth concerns, and the impact of difficult experiences. She is committed to creating a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered to create meaningful change.

​Outside of the therapy room, Shay enjoys spending quality time with her daughter and creating lifelong memories together. She also loves discovering new restaurants, treating herself to a mani-pedi, and recently discovered a new hobby after trying golf for the first time. As someone who values lifelong learning, Shay is always seeking opportunities for both personal and professional growth. She believes that caring for herself allows her to be fully present for the individuals, couples, and families she has the privilege of serving.
 
Shay will see clients via Telehealth throughout California. ​
