Family & Children's Counseling Services, Inc. is honored to have Rabia Khara on our team as a dually registered Associate for Marriage & Family Therapist and Professional Clinical Counselor.
Rabia has been engaged in the mental health profession since starting her journey as a volunteer for the Crisis Line while still in high school. She majored in biological sciences and got her second undergraduate degree in clinical psychology. Rabia went on to obtain her Masters in Arts in Clinical Psychology with Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University.
She has worked with children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families. She has extensive work experience in the field of clinical psychology and has treated a variety of issues including mood disorders, Asperger's, autism spectrum disorder, oppositional defiance disorder and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, suicidal ideation, self-harm and self-destructive behaviors. She also has experience working with couples and families, and in treating personality disorders and mood and substance use disorders.
Rabia is trained in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), IFS (internal family systems) and the experiential modalities of creative arts and music. She has a trauma-informed approach to cognitive behavioral therapy when working with children. Additionally, she is a mindfulness meditation practitioner and narrative/solution focused therapist with training in EMDR.
In her spare time, Rabia enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, writing, horse riding, dogs, nature walks, hiking, painting and photography.
Rabia believes in leading a life of service and purpose with compassion and kindness. She considers herself blessed to be able to do the work that she does and to be a conduit of hope and healing to the community she is fortunate to serve.
Rabia will spend her time at Family & Children's Counseling Services working toward her California licenses. She is under the clinical supervision of Melinda Haynes, MA, LMFT 102308.
